Education
Lawyer Times began learning chess at the age of five by watching his older brother teach his sister He quickly grasped the basics and, through a mix of self‑study and coaching from accomplished chess masters, earned the rank of National Master after only five years of tournament play. As a teenager, he represented Boston Latin School, helping the team win the National High School Team Championship in 1982. His early dedication to the game laid the foundation for an enduring chess career that has spanned more than three decades.
Experience
Times grew up in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and for about forty years worked full‑time at the U.S. Postal Service while also pursuing chess competitively and as a coach. His notable achievements include winning the 2012 Boylston Chess Club Championship and being named the Massachusetts State Chess Champion in 2017. n 2016 he founded the Future Masters Chess Academy to share his proven chess curriculum with young players across Massachusetts. Supported by Jaylen Brown’s Boston XChange grant, he retired from postal service work in 2024 to devote himself full‑time to the academy, which now serves hundreds of students through in‑person and virtual programs.
